I began this drawing thinking on collections. A building’s edifice was needed, grandenough formagnificent collections. Whilst drawing, surrounded by trees, birdlife and the magnificent Clarence River, I heard suburbia’s sounds and chainsaws. I dwelt on how people plant shrubs and cut down trees. The tree became a symbol of stoicism and beauty, something tobe treasured. Cheekily, I collaged my female protagonist as a collection of designers’ disembodied limbs from various magazines. The work puzzles over why we collect things, and what is truly important to us.
