About the Exhibition
It’s been ten years since I settled beside the mighty Clarence River, upstream at Seelands, southwest of Grafton. Every window in my home looks towards the river, and each day it continues to delight me.
When I walk down the steep slope and submerge my once-pristine art paper into the ebb and flow of this living presence, I feel a sense of collaboration. Each offering is unique, shaped by the river’s current, its colour, and its mood.
My practice is deeply influenced by the rivers and streams where I live. Through experimentation and play, my drawings and installations explore what happens when the river becomes part of the creative process itself.
Some works bear traces of sediment or the stains left by flowing water. Others are painted in gouache — wet in wet under rain, or wet on dry in the stillness of the studio. Together, they speak of connection, chance, and the dialogue between artist and place.
I hope these works encourage a deeper appreciation and respect for the river — our vital lifeblood.
