Based in Northern NSW, Rochelle Summerfield cares deeply about the health of rivers and the ecosystems that support it. Her art practice is inspired and influenced by her lived connections and on-site ground work with the rivers and habitat where she lives.
Through drawing, paint, collage and mixed media her work explores human relationships with riparian environments. Every day she sees the undeniable beauty of our rivers as well as the ecological suffering of these riparian landscapes. Historical practices of land clearing, water politics and weed infestation put tremendous pressure on the Australian ecology. Rochelle wants to inspire curiosity in people and raise their awareness about the vital interconnectedness of our Trees and Rivers. Trees are crucial for biodiversity and the river is life for humans and non-humans.
