Description
I was an artist in residence at Dubbo, a regional cultural hub in New South Wales, Australia and my time there inspired this drawing. High above magnificent river gums cry the sulphur-crested cockatoos, reminding me of wild joy and wild nature. In the centre of town at Victoria Park, nature is preserved, manicured and contained. The graceful fountain with its bubbling movement of water symbolising timelessness. The fountain water is directed and controlled, in contrast to the ever-changing currents and floods of majestic rivers. With cheeky fun, I added urban bollards with chains, which seem a tad ridiculous in the face of an onslaught of flood waters.
The work explores nature and our place within it.
