Bees are such miracle workers and so vital to a healthy environment and us! They pollinate our food, gardens and landscapes, helping plants to keep the life cycle continuing!
I began drawing bees after I had three special visits by these native bees, and now that I recognise their buzz, I’ve see them regularly. The first one was a Green Metallic Carpenter Bee. She was in my studio and making a large amount of noise. As I walked in, she flew towards me demanding attention and to be let out of my studio. She looked like some kind of superheroine, with her shiny bright metallic, green and big, dark oval eyes as she let out a loud jet-sound buzz. She eagerly flew out the door. The next visit was the Teddy Bear Bee, as I was on my way down to the chook shed. Her buzz caught my attention, then her cute, and very chubby golden body. She was buzzing loudly around the flowers of the Lilly Pilly tree. My friend had said to me, that I must draw the Blue Banded as they are really pretty, and I said no, not till I get to see it. And low and behold, there she was outside my studio door. I can’t think how I missed her before cause, yes she is loud and does this cute little dance. If you think you hear a loud blo-fly, take the time to stop and double-check as it might just be a native bee. Bees are an important reminder of the interconnection of the ecosystem and of every living being to ‘be/e’.
